Dr. Les Joynes (ジョインズ レスリー) is a university professor and Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and recipient of the Fulbright - Nehru Professional and Academic Excellence Award and is a Senior Editor for P/A Journal at University of Melbourne.

He is Visiting Faculty, Renmin University of China, Beijing since 2013 and has been Visiting Professor at the Institute for Cultural Industries at the School of Arts at Peking University (SAPKU). He is Visiting Associate Professor at Visva Bharati School of Art, India’s foremost arts and culture university.

At Columbia University, he is a Research Scholar specialized in Advanced Curriculum Design for the future of art education at Teachers College and recently presents at Museum 2050 Conference at the Long Museum Shanghai on Art Schools of the Future. His work has appeared on CCTV (CN), NHK Television Japan, Sculpture Magazine (US), and Art Monthly (UK). Dr. Les Joynes is Professor of Record for Modern and Contemporary Art History at Renmin University. He began his career in higher education in the 1980s and now at at Columbia University he examines the futures of art education. A Senior Scholar in Asia he serves as a Senior Fellow at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi and is a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Society, the Royal Geographical Society, and the Royal Asiatic Society.

Educated in the US, UK and Japan, Professor Joynes is adamant about the future of education and co-leads the Thought Leadership Institute (TOLI) Future of Education series. has a BA (Honours) Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, London; BA (cum laude) from Boston University; M.Sc from Boston University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussels Faculty of Economic and Social Science; MA Fine Art from Goldsmiths, London; MA from Musashino Art University, Tokyo. Les completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Faculty of Art, Environment and Technology, Leeds Metropolitan University, UK and Post-Doctorate in Fine Art from the School of Communications and Arts, University of São Paulo, Brazil. Prof Joynes was selected by U.S. Presidentially appointed 12-member J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board to be awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Professional and Academic Excellence Award.

He serves on the Editorial Board for ProjectAnywhere, a peer-reviewed journal on artistic research at the University of Melbourne and Parsons School of Art, New York and was TrAIN Research Fellow at the Centre for Transnational Art, Identity and Nation at University of the Arts London. He recently reviews for the journal for Artistic Research (JAR).

Teaching at Renmin University since 2013 he is recipient of the Renmin University Merit Award.

Led research team in Ulaanbaatar and liaised with US Embassy, three national universities and the Mongolian Minister for Culture. Produced comprehensive research supporting cross-cultural exchange between the United States and Mongolia.

Fulbright-Hays US Public Diplomacy Award, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (2014) Recipient of the Fulbright-Hays and CEC ArtsLink Awards to lead an overland expedition to Northern Mongolia to research the nomadic Tsaatan Reindeer herding communities of Northern Mongolia. Led five -member team from Germany and Mongolia. Liaised with Cultural Affairs Specialists at US Department of State and local organizations to produce the first US-Mongolian collaborative performances which featured at Zanabazar National Museum of Fine Art.
