“Models for the Future of Work and Intercultural Collaboration” Dr. Joynes with MBAs at the School of Management, National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei.
Introduction
My journey in international education began in 1983 and has been shaped by over 35 years of academic and professional experience across Europe and Asia. I have studied and worked in France, the UK, Belgium, Taiwan, and Japan.
Collaborating with international institutions, my specialization in American Art and Culture, which I have taught since 1999, reflects a commitment to global dialogue through the arts. I have served as Professor of Record at Renmin University of China, Visiting Professor at Peking University’s Institute for Cultural Industries and Fulbright Visiting Associate Professor at Visva Bharati University in India.
Global Business
In parallel with my academic work, I bring a strong background in international organizations and global education strategy. I currently serve as a Columbia University Research Scholar in Coaching in Education Leadership at Teachers College, with a focus on international curriculum design, inclusive pedagogy, and sustainable educational leadership. I coach and mentor MBAs and startup founders at Columbia Business School and the Columbia Start-Up Lab in New York, helping them build global mindsets and effective cross-cultural teams.
Fostering Mutual Understanding
Throughout my career, I have led international public diplomacy and cultural exchange projects supported by the U.S. Department of State in India, Sri Lanka, Brazil, China, and Mongolia. As a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar to India, I served at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi and as Visiting Associate Professor at Visva Bharati University in West Bengal. I now lead India’s first coaching and mentoring program for Tribal youth in Nagaland.
My academic publications have appeared in Art in America, Sculpture Magazine, Art Monthly, and Springer, and I serve on the editorial board of ProjectAnywhere, a peer-reviewed journal for artistic research. I am currently a Board Director of the College Art Association in New York.
I am excited to bring this experience to Vietnam and to collaborate with Vietnamese faculty, students, and institutions. I am particularly eager to support the design of globalized curricula, promote intercultural learning, and contribute to Vietnam’s growing role as a leader in international education. I believe that educational partnerships can shape the future by nurturing creativity, leadership, and mutual understanding across cultures.
